We just received news that the U.S. Department of Labor Statistic Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) has expanded the H-1B Software Developer position to include Quality Assurance Analysts and Testers.
Previously, the positions of software quality assurance and software tester would have been denied by USCIS as being unsuitable for the H-1B visa criteria for “specialty occupations”.
However, as per the Department of Labor’s new definition, the roles of QA and testing in software will now be classed as “software developer” positions for the purposes of H-1B applications. This is great news for tech companies based in the United States who have previously struggled to recruit enough qualified testers from the local labor market.
