On June 22, 2020, President Trump gave a proclamation that appeared effectively to stop all H-1B, H-2B, L-1, L-2, and J visas for the remainder of the year.
Titled “Proclamation Suspending Entry of Aliens Who Present a Risk to the U.S. Labor Market Following the Coronavirus Outbreak”, the announcement has predictably sent shock waves through the U.S. business community. Certain sectors, such as information technology, have relied heavily on the H-1B for years.
The question everyone wants to know is, "Can we still hire the skilled personnel we need?" The answer is a qualified "Yes."
However, we must stress that the immigration landscape in mid-2020 is very different to any previous period, and it is absolutely vital that companies understand the new rules before proceeding with any new hiring activity.
