Qualifying for a TN Visa

The TN visa is for citizens of Canada and Mexico who seek temporary entry into the US as a professional. The candidate must be filling a professional position that requires a baccalaureate degree or similar license that demonstrates professional status in the field.

TN Visa Issues

A TN Visa must be petitioned for at a US Port of Entry/Border crossing or Airport Inspector. The visa candidate must present all necessary documentation on site.

Dependent spouse and minor children of beneficiary may enter the US. They may not work, but may attend school.

Accountant-Baccalaureate or Licenciatura Degree; or C.P.A., C.A., C.G.A or C.M.A.

Disaster relief insurance claims adjuster (claims adjuster employed by an insurance company located in the territory of a Party, or an independent claims adjuster)–Baccalaureate or Licenciatura Degree and successful completion of training in the appropriate areas of insurance adjustment pertaining to disaster relief claims; or three years experience in claims adjustment and successful completion of training in the appropriate areas of insurance adjustment pertaining to disaster relief claims.
Economist–Baccalaureate or Licenciatura Degree.

Once approved, the TN visa status lasts three years.

A TN visa may be extended in three year increments as long as temporary employment exists.
